Cricut Maker simplifies gift-giving

I love using the Cricut Maker to personalize all the things. With the holidays around the corner, I’m already thinking of fun, unique and simple ways to make personalized gifts.

I’ve decided to make personalized luggage tags for my mom! My mom Judy loves traveling and tags her bags with those paper tags from the airline. They always fall off. My tags are the perfect gift because they’re both a gift, and a gift tag for a larger gift. She’s going to love it.

It’s a good thing my Cricut Maker can cut 300 materials, because I’m putting it to the test on this project. We’re going to cut both leather and wood! That’s right, the knife blade can be used with the Cricut Maker to cut through balsa and basswood up to 1/16”. Pretty impressive.

Using your Cricut Maker, this project is simple. Let’s break it down.

MATERIALS NEEDED

The Cricut EasyPress Mini is a time and space saver, but I really love it because it’s adorably tiny and cute.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER

STEP 1: Open and Customize the Design

Open this leather + wood design in Cricut Design Space. You can resize the hole in the tag, if necessary to fit your grommets. Mine are set to 1/5 inch.

STEP 2: Cut the Design With Cricut Maker

Using a Strong Grip Mat, cut the leather and basswood pieces out first. The mat should hold the basswood perfectly, but I like to reinforce it with artist’s tape just to be safe.

STEP 3: Cut and Weed the Vinyl

Using a Standard Grip mat, cut the personalized name out of iron-on metallic foil. Ensure you have properly sized the name to fit onto the leather tag.

STEP 4: Adhere Vinyl With a Cricut EasyPress Mini

Turn the Cricut EasyPress Mini on low and gently press the foil iron-on onto the leather piece. If you choose to use a different iron-on material, check out this print and save heat guide for proper settings.

STEP 5: Attach with Glue

Glue the leather onto the wood tag using wood glue and attach the grommet.

Whether you’re giving a small gift like this, or something high value, a personalized gift will always be treasured.
